Our Hand-Dyed Camp Sock Yarn brings together our unique wool and alpaca blend with the artistry of rich, hand-dyed colours. Each skein is dyed in small batches, with the goal of creating vibrant, layered yarn.
The Camp Sock Yarn is a mix of fibers chosen for their specific natural properties:
• Polypay wool brings reliable warmth• Lincoln Longwool lends strength, serving as a natural alternative to nylon for long-lasting wear.
• Alpaca adds ultra-soft feel for next-to-skin comfort.Learn more about the characteristics of these fibres here.
What makes this yarn truly special? Every skein is grown and made on our own farm, with fleece from the very sheep we raise and care for.
Handcrafted from Farm to Skein
We are committed to the use of locally raised, natural wool—an environmentally friendly, renewable fiber that has provided warmth and durability for generations. To preserve its integrity and keep the footprint small, we handle every step of the process ourselves, from raw fleece to finished yarn, washing, dyeing, carding, and spinning each skein in our on-site wool mill just outside of Thunder Bay. As a woolen-spun yarn, the fibers retain loft, giving your finished projects warmth without excess weight. We never use harsh chemicals or bleaching agents, so you get a fiber that retains all of its beneficial qualities.

A Note on Hand-Dyed Yarn
Our small-batch, dyed-in-the-wool process ensures that each skein is uniquely beautiful, even within the same dye lot. Because we embrace the natural variations that come with artisan dyeing, no two skeins are ever identical. If working on a larger project, we recommend purchasing enough yarn at once to ensure color consistency, as we can’t replicate a colour in the future. Alternating skeins while knitting can also help create a consistent blend.
You may have had the experience of washing a yarn (including commercial yarns) and noticed colour in the wash water. This is a result of excess dye in the yarn. Water temperature and the soap used can also be a factor. While we take great care to rinse out excess dye, some color bleeding may still occur—especially in the first wash. This does not mean the colours will fade or transfer when washing.
To check for color fastness, we suggest blocking your yarn in cool water before use and washing with like colors. Certain shades, like reds, are more likely to bleed. For high-contrast colorwork, try knitting a swatch and washing to see what will happen. Steam blocking can help prevent transfer, and some knitters find that using Color Catchers provides additional peace of mind.
Occasionally dyes can ‘crock’ onto your hands while knitting. This is less likely with our yarn as we wash it again in the skein using Euclan, but it is still possible. Again, this does not mean the colours will fade or transfer when washing. You should be able to easily wash the colour off using soap and warm water.

DISCLAIMER
We do our best to represent colours accurately, however not all screens are calibrated the same and colour may appear differently in person.
Small scale on-farm processing like ours means that there will be a few joins/knots, a small amount of vegetable matter (hay or straw bits) and more noticeable variation in the yarn. While Procion dyes are colorfast, some dye colours have a rinse-off period. The weight of wool varies based on the humidity in the air, so all weights are approximations.
