Meet the Maker

Beverly Barlow makes a variety of fibre art products under the name Border House Fibre Arts. She dyes, spins, knits, weaves, felts and sews to create unique one-of-a-kind items, primarily using the fibre from her own animals. Beverly also believes in conscious consumption and regularly repurposes or thrifts materials as she makes her creations. As a fibre artist, she prioritizes colour and originality, as well as the hand-made aesthetic.

Beverly earned her spinning certificate in 2014 after completing the 7-year program at Fleming College’s Haliburton School of Art & Design. She has also completed the Canadian Co-Operative Wool Growers fibre judging course which was offered in collaboration with the Ontario Handweavers and Handspinners in 2009. Beverly counts herself lucky to have been mentored by Master Spinner and Weaver Betty Wilkinson, from whom she took private spinning lessons.

Hand-Woven Shawls

Made on a triangle loom, these one-of-a-kind shawls showcase Beverly's love of colour through the variety of unique colour blends.

Hand-Woven Hats

Using a Master Weaver as well as her own novelty handspun yarn, Beverly has created a series of funky woven hats.

Novelty Fibre Necklaces

Novelty yarn has been spun to create these unique textured necklaces in a variety of bold colors that are Beverly's trademark.

Hand-Knit Hats

A truly 100% hand-made product, Beverly uses the fibre from her own sheep that she then cleans, dyes and spins to then knit these hats. Each hand-made hat is unique.

Teaching & Judging

Private Lessons

Beverly has experience providing private spinning lessons and is able to work with students from beginner to advanced on any spinning wheel.

$50 / 1 hr.

$250 / Six 1 hr. sessions

Workshops & Demonstrations

Beverly has run a variety of workshops in the areas of landscape felting, weaving, dyeing and spinning. She is also available for spinning demonstrations. Please reach out to discuss your event.

Fibre Judging

In addition to her education and experience noted above, Beverly has the added qualification of being a fibre farmer herself. She has hands-on experiece with a variety of sheep breeds, alpaca, and angora rabbits all of which she has raised and then spun into yarn. Please reach out to discuss your event.
